Chantel is espAfrika’s head of technical & television production, a vital component of the company’s DNA and requires someone who is adept at multi-tasking and making sure that every ‘t’ is crossed and ‘i’, dotted. Chantel’s 11 years of experience in project management come to bear when overseeing a technical crew of some 255 personnel on Festival nights, or managing and implementing the technical requirements for over 40 artists spread across five stages – including individual design, sound and lighting requirements. This is an enormous responsibility as the visitor enjoyment and the artist performance depends on the smooth implementation of the specific requirements. She orchestrates and handles these demands with customary strength and assurance, having started in the ranks at espAfrika and worked her way up the ladder – one rung at a time.
Chantel also oversees the 11 training and development programmes that espAfrika runs as part of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. These skills development sessions span several weeks and involve hundreds of participants. Chantel has endless enthusiasm and energy for this side of the business, recognising how inspiring youngsters in the now, can positively impact and influence their future career and life choices. Her qualifications in sales, marketing and management as well as her experience of road managing music artists, add to the overall flair and expert delivery of these programmes and all the other aspects that she is involved in at espAfrika.
